Souvenir of Afghanistan
From the beginning of the 20th century, the kings of Afghanistan
tried to insert their country in modernity and to this end they built
roads, created industries and installed electricity. Thus, between
1901 and 1929, the Afghan monarchs took as a starting point the
Europe to create palates and extraordinary gardens, now destroyed.
The exceptional collection, from which these photographs come, was
published in 1925, under the reign of the emir Amanullah Khan, by the
Afghan intellectual Mahmud Tarzi. The majority of the images of the
album were carried out by Afghan photographers. Two versions were
printed : color and black-and-white.
